This is a large ward located on the far west side of Winnipeg, north of the Assiniboine River. The ward has had some changes from the previous St. James – Brooklands – Weston ward, which will take effect for the 2018 civic election. The new ward has lost three neighbourhoods to the north-east of the airport, and has amalgamated with all but four neighbourhoods of the former St. Charles ward.
Under its previous boundaries the ward had a population of 37,571 residents, based on 2016 census data. The new ward has a population of 49,118 residents, based on 2016 census data.
Prior to the 2018 election boundaries, all neighbourhoods west of the CPR La Riviere rail line and east of Sturgeon Road were part of the St. James – Brooklands – Weston Ward, represented by Councillor Scott Gillingham, who was elected in 2014. All neighbourhoods to the west of Sturgeon Road and northwest of the Airport area were part of the St. Charles Ward, represented by Councillor Shawn Dobson, who was elected in 2014. The Omand’s Creek Industrial, Brooklands, and Weston neighbourhoods will now be part of the Point Douglas ward.
Neighbourhoods within the new ward boundaries include:
- Airport
