Questionnaire Response

Adam Taplin - St. James - Assiniboia - King Edward - Deer Lodge

Why did you decide to run in the 2018 (Winnipeg Civic Election / School Board Election)?

To provide a better future for my brothers children and make the decisions that best reflect what people need by holding those in power accountable.

I have always had a passion for serving others and I can’t think of a greater honour than to represent the people of this district. And the best way to do that is to remember you’re elected to represent the people not your own interests and certainly not the people you are to hold accountable to do their jobs.

What experience will you bring to complement your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

During my time attending Red River College, I was elected Vice -President and President of the Students’ Association because of my passion to help others and make things better. I also sat on the Board of Governors for the college as the student representative.

I currently sit on the RRCSA board as a non voting member to help and give advice when needed and I am a volunteer community football coach. I am also a current part time student giving me a personal perspective of what life is like for the people I make decisions for.

I was also a member of CASA the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations where I learned how to lobby to government officials, discussing important needs the students are facing.

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

I believe it is necessary to make the best decisions for the kids in the schools, their parents, the educators and the taxpayers.

School administration is at an all time high costing taxpayers money. Meanwhile educators are unhappy and spending their own money to provide the materials they need for teaching our children.

One of the biggest problems we face today is parents need to work to provide for their families but its impossible to get them into proper programs for a safe place to be before and after school. Children aren’t qualifying for buses because the live “too far away” and cant attend a school five minutes away because it’s not in their area.

These are not the wise decisions the people of this neighborhood need for their children.

What is something that you appreciate about the (City of Winnipeg / the ward / the school ward or school division) you wish to represent?

Its home! St james is a community and we are proud of it!!

Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

With me it’s simple, no catchy slogans just me working hard to best represent you the citizens of the neighborhood.

No more free rides, I will hold those in power accountable.
