Why did you decide to run in the 2018 (Winnipeg Civic Election / School Board Election)?

Having attended a few school board meetings earlier this year and talking with other parents within my neighborhood I felt that there was a lack of engagement between the school board and parents. Right now the only communication we receive is a quarterly newsletter in the mail. Social media could be utilized to seek more input from the greater community. I also felt that some trustees were using their power to push their own political agenda within our school division. This is something that deeply troubled me. I am a firm believer in a Parents Rights and decisions regarding their children.

What experience will you bring to complement your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

I have been working as a Border Services Officer within the Canada Border Services Agency for over 7 years. In my line of work I have to deal with people at their best, their worst or somewhere in between. I always aim to provide the highest level of service to the general public and if elected I would have the same expectations of myself.

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

I believe we should become better at teaching fundamental life skills

• Food and Nutrition
  • We are facing multiple issues with regards to our country’s health that could be alleviated if dealt with at a young age. Issues such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc… could be reduced by establishing good eating habits while children are still young.
• Physical Fitness/Education
  • This issue also compliments Food and Nutrition. Many children are not meeting the required guidelines of physical activity recommended by experts in the field. The benefits of being physically active are numerous. Hopefully by instilling this habit into children it would also encourage parents to be more active.  People of all ages within our community should be pursuing a more active lifestyle.
• Financial Management
  • Many Canadians are living paycheck to paycheck. It is a perilous position to find yourself in. Children should be taught about money and the history of currency. What is FIAT currency? Fractional Reserve Banking? The history of Usury? Obviously these issues should be addressed at the high school level but nonetheless I see as a necessary issue to be included into our school system.

What is something that you appreciate about the (City of Winnipeg / the ward / the school ward or school division) you wish to represent?

I haven’t explored every area within the Kirkfield – St. Charles Ward but I often take my children for walks around where we live. The people we meet along the way are always friendly and engaging with my children and for that I am grateful.

Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

If elected I would use my annual indemnity of $16,000 to purchase items such as books, sports equipment, etc… for schools throughout the Kirkfield – St. Charles Ward
