Questionnaire Response
Kevin Nichols - Charleswood - Tuxedo
Why did you decide to run in the 2018 (Winnipeg Civic Election / School Board Election)?
I decided to run in order to provide proper representation for the area. For about eight years the Ward voice has been very quiet. The area needs a voice to adequately represent the needs of the community. I don’t believe the area interests have been addressed at City Hall in a long time. I will be that voice to not only address the area needs but provide the City with a common sense approach to politics. Providing real solutions to issues requires action. I am not one to sit on the bench, I am one to get in the game and take action, providing real solutions. It is time we had positive action to solve real problems. I enjoy helping people and the area residents and from where I sit, the City needs help. Those are some of my reasons for running.
What experience will you bring to complement your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?
I have been with the City for 32 years, I have worked with a multitude of departments in my role with the City. I have been involved with all levels of management and have also had direct dealings with past Councillors. My experience with the City brings me close to the issues and allows me to see the interaction between political decisions and the ensuing results in the area/City. I also bring a background in running my own business. I know what it will take to ensure the taxpayers get the best services for their tax dollars.
What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?
The issues are not only important to me but more importantly, the people I would represent. Depending on the area, I have heard crime as an issue, poverty, preservation of green space, and tax dollars being wasted. I will fight for the issues concerning my ward on both sides of the river as a good Councillor should. The issues that are important to my constituents are the issues that are important to me and as an elected official I need to respect the concerns put forward and address them appropriately.
What is something that you appreciate about the (City of Winnipeg / the ward / the school ward or school division) you wish to represent?
The Ward of Charleswood-Tuxedo now encompasses Westwood, the Oaks and St.Charles. What I really appreciate about the area is the fact people are concerned about development and loss of green space, on both sides of the river. I have been an advocate for the preservation of green space for a long time and responsible development. I believe people truly enjoy the green space in the area and I will fight to keep it as I have in the past and will until my last breath.
Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?
This is the second time running in this ward, so you know I am serious about representing the people in this ward. I have volunteered in the area for many different causes to help people with the issues Councillors turn their back on. I will keep fighting if I am elected and will never turn my back on anyone.
