Jean-Michel Beaudry - Franco-Manitoban School Division - Urban Region

Why did you decide to run in the 2018 (Winnipeg Civic Election / School Board Election)?

I am a proud DSFM graduate and have always had my school division at heart. French schools are an indispensable pillar for Manitoba’s Francophone community and it is with humility that I hope to continue to lend my talents to the DSFM School Board. I have a variety of experiences in the Francophone community and I have always wanted help bring together school and community. I want to make sure that all DSFM students feel able to shape Manitoba’s Francophone community.

What experience will you bring to complement your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

First, I believe that my experience as a trustee during the last four years is an asset. I am familiar with the operation and procedures of the CSFM, and I have already contributed directly to the revision and drafting of policies. I also had the chance to be part of a team of 11 trustees with sometimes different points of view. I have been tactful and diplomatic, always working towards compromise or towards building consensus. Teamwork and respect for others are essential to the work of the trustee. Finally, I have been involved in Francophone organizations since I was 14 years old. I remain strongly involved in the community as Director of Community Economic Development at the CDEM and as President of the Theatre Cercle Molière. I try to listen to the entire community: students, parents, staff, organizations and Francophones in the broad sense.

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

-1- There are significant infrastructure gaps at the DSFM, particularly in the urban area, where two new schools – one in the northeast and the other in the southeast – are required.

-2- Early childhood is a particularly important issue for Manitoba’s Francophone community. Language development education for 0-5-year-olds has a lasting impact for children enrolling in DSFM.

-3- A evergreen challenge is to strengthen the links between our schools and their communities. Although there has been a lot of progress in recent years, especially since the adoption of our strategic plan, it is important to continue to strengthen community partnerships.
