Why did you decide to run in the 2018 (Winnipeg Civic Election / School Board Election)?

I have proudly served as a School Trustee for more than 20 years, first on the Norwood School Division Board, then on the amalgamated Board of Norwood/St. Boniface and now for the Louis Riel School Division. Today, I am just as passionate about education as I was when I was first elected. Being a full-time Trustee allows me to dedicate myself to the issues facing students, parents, community, staff and educators.

What experience will you bring to complement your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

• A strong, bilingual voice for the LRSD Community.
• A strong advocate of the equal and fair treatment of all students.
• A strong voice in pursuing increased provincial government financial support for public education while reducing the burden of higher taxes for constituents.
• A strong and experienced Trustee with the leadership qualities required to help guide the Division through the challenging and promising times ahead.
• I have served as Chair, Past Chair and Vice-Chair for both the amalgamated Norwood/St. Boniface and LRSD School Divisions. Currently Chair of the Community Connections Committee.
• I currently serve as a Trustee on the Manitoba School Boards Association Pension Committee as well as the Convention Committee.
• My professional background provides extensive experience at the Managerial level in Strategic Planning, Business Development, Recruitment, Training and Workforce Development. At the Board level, I have applied this experience to promote and create a learning environment which enables individuals to achieve and grow.
• a creative, resourceful leader with a reputation for hard work, integrity and loyalty.

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

• Equal and fair treatment for all students
• Increased government financial support for public education while reducing the burden of higher taxes for constituents
• With the announcement of the impending Provincial K-12 Educational Review, it is imperative that the LRSD has strong, experienced representation at the table
• Continue to work towards developing and strengthening School Programming to ensure student success.
• Collaboration and consultation with all Community stakeholders

What is something that you appreciate about the (City of Winnipeg / the ward / the school ward or school division) you wish to represent?

The Louis Riel School Division has a very unique and diverse history of inclusion, respect and celebration of individuality. The staff are passionate and committed, and continue to seek the best level of education for all LRSD students. I appreciate the acknowledgement that education is a lifelong journey and comes in many forms. The pride and sense of community in LRSD continues to grow and I am very proud and honored to represent this Division.

I would like to thank the LRSD Community for the privilege that has been extended to me in past elections. I hope that I can count on your continued support so that, together, we can continue our important work.
