Why did you decide to run in the 2018 (Winnipeg Civic Election / School Board Election)?

I have served as a trustee for the Louis Riel School Division for the past 4 years and would like to do so again. I have found we, as trustees, can help ensure the best possible education for students. I have been involved in the onset of divisional projects and would like to continue to do so.

What experience will you bring to complement your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

4 years as trustee, member of the Community Connections Committee, member and chair of the Negotiations Committee, co-presenter on “Connecting with Community” at the Canadian School Boards Conference, teacher in the Louis Riel School Division for 26 years, evaluated teacher candidates for the University of Winnipeg.

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

Indigenous education, mental health education, education in the two official languages, ensuring basic education is met as well as the arts, physical education,trades and technology.

It is important that students learn about the history of indigenous people in order to understand what has occurred and move on to reconciliation from there.

In this world of often stressful living, we need to be aware of recognizing the signs of mental illness and providing help when needed.

We must not forget to ensure that the basics are being taught in schools but we must also offer music, art, phys ed., the opportunity to learn trades for those who have those interests. Technology is an important part of our working world and advances in teaching technology must be kept up with.

We are proud to be able to offer instruction in our two official languages and must make sure that it continues.

What is something that you appreciate about the (City of Winnipeg / the ward / the school ward or school division) you wish to represent?

I appreciate that we have such a tremendous, hard working staff in the Louis Riel School Division who want the division to operate in a manner in which students can succeed.

I appreciate that we have parents who cooperate and help our staff  to assist in their children’s education.

Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I feel I have made a difference in my 4 years as trustee in promoting connecting with students, parents, staff and the community.

I have tried hard to make sure programs and assistance for students are being offered as they should be.

My experience in education has been an asset in performing my duties as a trustee.
