Questionnaire Response

Greg Reid - Seine River - 1

Why did you decide to run in the 2018 (Winnipeg Civic Election / School Board Election)?

I have been an elected Trustee in Seine River School Division since 2002. I am an active and committed representative of my community, working with my Board colleagues to improve public education for students and their families. I believe that my experience both as a Trustee and as a leader in the public sector has prepared me to continue to provide leadership and support in this role, and that there is more work to do. I am fully committed to continuing to work hard over the next four years continuing to put students first.

What experience will you bring to complement your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

I have been an elected trustee for sixteen years. I am currently the Vice-Chair of my school board and have served for several years as the Chair of the Human resources Committee. I have worked in the public sector in Winnipeg and in rural Manitoba for more than 25 years, and I am currently in a leadership role in the healthcare system. I have also been active as a leader in my community at the parent level in my children’s school as well as the community at large.

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

I am a passionate advocate for inclusion of ALL students in the life of the school and community. I believe in leveraging technology in classrooms and in the public school system to continue to provide students with the best possible opportunities to learn. I believe that the promotion of mental wellness is crucial in our school communities and believe that we need to do everything we can to promote mental health and decrease the stigma associated with mental illness. Promotion of the arts is important as well, and continuing to invest in all forms of artistic expression is important to me, whether it be music, drama or fine arts.

What is something that you appreciate about the (City of Winnipeg / the ward / the school ward or school division) you wish to represent?

I believe that Seine River School Division always works hard to put students first. I consider it an honor and privilege to be part of an organization that always asks, “How will this impact our students?” before making decisions.

Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I am excited about serving my community, the students and their families for another term. I invite anyone who would like to connect with me directly to email me at [email protected] to start the conversation. Please check out my facebook page at www.facebook.com/electgregreid/
