Questionnaire Response

Claude Plante - Louis Riel - 1

Why did you decide to run in the 2018 (Winnipeg Civic Election / School Board Election)?

Thank you for giving me this opportunity.
I want to make a difference and give back to my community.
I believe I can one of the voices from the community to lobby the provincial government for additional funding and supports to ensure that all students have access to high-quality education.  My priority is to ensure that our students have what they need to succeed in school, which is the foundation for later success within the broader community.

What experience will you bring to complement your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

I have 35 years of experience working in facility and project management, with the past 18 being in education in the senior administration office.  Working on the operational and finance side of education has provided me with a unique perspective that extends beyond the pedagogical concerns of the classroom walls.  I know and have an understanding of the challenges ahead for us in education.

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

We need a strong voice to lobby for:

– increased funding
– increased daycare space
– support for our classroom teachers
– support for our administrators
– improved physical learning environments for our children
– improved infrastructure, gymnasiums, theater space, and science labs
– the ability to keep up with technological advancements

What is something that you appreciate about the (City of Winnipeg / the ward / the school ward or school division) you wish to represent?

I appreciate their insight into the challenges ahead of us and how hard they work for our children’s future.

Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I believe the role of a trustee is to govern, direct policy and lobby the provincial government for the needs of our students and teachers to ensure student success.
I will be a Strong Voice to lobby for our children and the community.
